Ladprao – RS chief financial officer Dam Nana revealed that in the first quarter of 2013, the company’s total revenue reached 719.2 million baht. Its net profit skyrocketed to 68 million baht – a 20% growth over the same period last year. Its TV business, which is a part of its media group, generated 205 million baht, which is a 73% increase over the previous year, due to its increasing popularity and continuously growing rating, particularly its five satellite channels which are Channel 8, Sabaidee TV, You Channel, Star Max Channel and Sun Channel. Based on viewership surveys conducted by Nielson Media Research in April 2013, all of RS’s satellite TV channels saw 17% growth in terms of audience over the previous month, and 100% increase compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, its radio business generated 103 million baht, a 45% increase from the same period last year, due to an addition of two new radio stations which are Sabaidee Radio 88.5 and Cool Celsius 91.5. Also contributing to the growth was the increase in advertising rates by RS’s most popular radio station Cool Fahrenheit 93, who has constantly organized activities for fans such as Cool Outing 8 and Cool Music Alive, both of which received overwhelming feedback from sponsors. Thanks to the significant growth in its satellite TV and radio, RS’s media business pocketed 315 million baht in this quarter, a 35% increase over the same period last year.
For music business, RS cashed in 254 million baht, which is a 16% increase over last year. In the first quarter of this year, R Siam broke the record with “Khon Mod Jai, Rang Hai Pai Kor Tai Yoo Dee” by Kluay R Siam, which becomes the most downloaded song in the past two years. At present, “Rak Tong Perd Nan Ok” by 3.2.1 feat Baitoey R Siam is an instant hit, with YouTube views, Deezer hits and download counts from mobile operators and iTunes growing steadily. Its music streaming service Deezer is also expanding at a fast pace, due to the launch of 3G in Thailand by all mobile operators, which allows easier access to this service, making it more popular.
“For the second quarter, we will still focus on our media business, both TV and radio, because it is enjoying rapid growth as we can see from the figures. For our music business, we will continue to produce quality songs and offer new services to keep up with the changing technologies. In showbiz, a mega concert RS Meeting Concert Return 2013 has been scheduled, featuring two shows on May 18 and 19. We are confident that all our businesses will meet the targets and grow continuously,” said Dam.
